From dinosaurs to climate change, visit our modern and engaging exhibitions located in a beautiful heritage “castle.”
The Canadian Museum of Nature is an educational and scientific institution, as well as a popular, downtown-Ottawa tourist attraction—housed in a historic castle-like building.
As the national natural-history museum for Canada, it is a vibrant, multi-layered, multi-faceted organization composed of world-renowned research scientists, collection specialists, education and multimedia specialists, and innovative museum professionals.
Since the museum first opened its doors to the public in 1912, it has worked to increase scientific knowledge and understanding of the natural world.
Highlights Include:
- Beaty Centre for Species Discovery - The Beaty Centre brings together the museum’s core expertise in species discovery, collections-based research and conservation of natural-history collections.
- Centre for Arctic Knowledge and Exploration - The Arctic Centre brings together and expands the museum’s science and collections expertise on Canada’s Arctic with the aim to meet the world’s environmental challenges and inspire future scientists.
- Collections - Animals, fossils, minerals, plants and algae—more than 14.6 million specimens are preserved in the museum’s natural-history collections, while our nature art and photo collections tell another side of the story.
