    Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need rock climbing experience for this tour?

Not at all. This trip is designed as an introduction (or refresher) to outdoor climbing. Your guide will coach you through knots, belaying, and climbing techniques step by step.

    Where will we climb?

Most tours take place at Wall Street or Ice Cream Parlor, two of Moab’s most classic climbing areas just 15–20 minutes from town. Guides choose the best location based on conditions and group ability. If you want something more advanced, we can climb Fisher towers.

How much actual climbing will I do?

Plenty! In a half-day trip, you’ll usually get to try several routes of varying height and difficulty. There’s time to rest, cheer on others, and then climb again.

Will I always be attached to a rope?

While on the rock, you will be attached to the rope at all times. These are top rope climbs, meaning you’re tied into the system with a rope that goes through an anchor at the top and back down to your guide, who keeps the rope snug so you feel supported the entire time.

What if I get nervous halfway up?

That’s completely normal. Many guests start hesitant but build confidence quickly. If you’d like to stop, your guide can gently lower you back to the ground at any point.

Is this a good activity for kids?

Yes! The minimum age is 5 years old, and families love seeing their kids gain confidence on the rock. Routes are chosen to match the comfort level of younger climbers.

    Are climbing shoes included?

Yes. We provide climbing shoes along with all other technical gear. Don’t worry if you don’t own special gear. If you have your own climbing shoes, please feel free to bring them!

Are there bathrooms at the climbing site?

Restrooms are available at the Adventure Center before departure and sometimes at the trailhead, but not always directly at the climbing walls. Guides will let you know about options before you head out.

How physically demanding is this tour?

If you can climb a tall ladder, you can try this. Routes range from beginner-friendly slabs to more vertical challenges. Your guide will match climbs to each guest’s ability.

How much time is spent climbing versus driving?

The drive to the climbing area is only about 15–20 minutes each way. The rest of your half-day is focused on climbing.

What should I wear and bring?

Wear comfortable, athletic clothing. You’ll switch into the climbing shoes we provide, so any closed-toe shoes for walking to the cliff are fine. Bring sunscreen, a water bottle, and a small daypack if you’d like.

How long does the tour last?

About 5 hours total, including transportation, gearing up, instruction, and plenty of climbing time.

What happens if the weather looks questionable?

If conditions aren’t suitable for climbing, we’ll either reschedule your trip or issue a full refund—your choice. If the rock is wet from rain within the last 48 hours, cancel or reschedule.

    How big are the groups?

Up to 6 climbers unless private group

Do I need climbing experience to join a private trip?

Not at all. Most of our guests are beginners or gym climbers trying outdoor rock for the first time. Your private guide will match routes to your comfort level and teach you knots, belaying, and climbing technique.

Is private climbing good for families or mixed groups?

Yes. Private trips are especially popular with families and groups where some are eager to climb and others are a little nervous. With a dedicated guide, everyone can climb at their own pace and choose routes that fit their ability.

    What gear is included?

We provide all technical equipment: climbing shoes, helmets, harnesses, and ropes. You’ll just need to bring comfortable clothing you can move in, closed-toe shoes for the approach hike, water, and sunscreen.

How long does the trip last?

A private rock climbing trip lasts about 5 hours, including the approach hike, instruction, and time on the wall. Morning and afternoon departures are available.

What’s the minimum and maximum group size for private climbing?

We can run a private climbing trip for as few as two guests or as many as 10–12. If you have a larger group, we can arrange extra guides so everyone gets plenty of climbing time.

Can we request specific climbs or difficulty levels?

Yes. Your guide will choose routes based on your goals and experience, whether you want easy climbs for kids, a challenge to push your limits, or a mix of both. With a private trip, the focus is entirely on your group.

Is climbing good for kids or older adults?

Yes, within reasonable limits. Kids as young as 5 can often climb with help, and older adults can participate at a pace that feels comfortable. Guides are trained to adapt to a wide range of abilities and make sure everyone feels secure.

How do we book a private rock climbing adventure?

You can request a date directly online or by calling our team. Because private climbing is popular in peak season, we recommend reserving early to guarantee your preferred date.
