Step Off a 400-Foot Cliff and Understand What Courage Actually Feels Like

Your day starts with a short drive to the shuttle lot just north of Moab on U.S. 191 (15 minutes from downtown Moab). From there, you'll experience an exciting 4x4 adventure on a beautiful redrock trail for about 30 minutes, rocking over slabs and washes until the canyon edge comes into view. Most guests go quiet at this point. It is the first real look at what they signed up for.

Then the guides clip you in. Harness, helmet, gloves, backups triple-checked. They walk you to the edge, count you down, and you step off under your own power. The first few seconds are free fall, a real drop, and then the rope catches, and the pendulum takes over. You arc across the open canyon at 60 mph, sandstone walls blurring past on both sides

When the swing settles, a motorized winch carries you smoothly back to the rim, where the canyon opens wide in every direction. You climb out of the harness with your whole body still humming, and you watch the next jumper hesitate at the edge just like you did. Most guests say they did not think they could do it. Part of the fun is watching each person in the group jump off the edge one by one.

    Frequently Asked Questions

How safe is the Moab Rope Swing?

Safety is the reason this is the only rope swing in the country that holds a BLM permit. Every harness, rope, and anchor is inspected before your jump, and the rigging uses multiple backup systems on every line. The guides have decades of combined experience, and every jumper gets a full safety briefing before stepping to the edge.

Do I need any experience to jump?

No experience needed. The Moab Rope Swing is built for first-timers, and our guides handle every piece of the setup. You'll get a full safety briefing, get fitted with your harness and helmet, and walk through the jump step by step before you ever take the leap.

How high is the cliff and how does the swing work?

The jump is from a 400-foot sandstone cliff. You step off the edge under your own power, fall for a few seconds, and then the rope catches. The pendulum carries you in a 60 mph arc across the open canyon. When the swing settles, a motorized winch pulls you smoothly back to the top of the cliff.

Is there a weight limit or age minimum?

Yes. Guests must weigh 300 pounds or less, and the minimum age to jump is 8 years old. The weight limit is set by the rigging system and is not flexible. Kids who meet the age minimums jump with the same equipment and briefing as adults, and most do beautifully. If you're close to the weight limit, or traveling with a child near the age minimum, give us a call before you book so we can walk through what to expect. We want every jumper set up to succeed at their own pace.

    Who shouldn't do this jump?

We do not recommend the jump for pregnant guests or for anyone with back, neck, or spine conditions. If you've had a past injury and you still want to jump, please get cleared by your doctor first. The swing itself is softer on the body than it looks, but every jumper is different, and we'd rather you know before you book.

How does this compare to the moab zipline or hell's revenge?

The Moab Rope Swing is the most intense thrill of all our tours. Our Moab Zipline Adventure is fast and airborne but controlled end to end, and Hell's Revenge is a heart-pounding Hummer ride over slickrock with your feet never leaving the vehicle. The rope swing asks you to step off the edge under your own power. If you're chasing the biggest adrenaline moment in Moab, this is it.

Isn't this the corona arch swing that got banned?

No. The swing from Corona Arch was a different swing at a different location, and it was closed to the public in 2014 after a fatal accident. The Corona Arch swing was not a commercial operation like the Moab Rope Swing. The Moab Rope Swing is a separate, fully permitted operation at a different cliff, run by a professional team with federal permits from the Bureau of Land Management and full insurance.

    Can I bring my dog?

As much as you might like to jump with them for comfort, we do not allow dogs or other pets on this adventure. Please make arrangements for your furry friends while you go on this adventure!

Is there cell service at the rope swing location?

There will be limited, to no cell service at the area where we jump and for most of the trail to the rope swing location. Coverage is also limited at the parking area, so be sure to start your navigation before leaving Moab and use the Google Maps app. Get directions here.

Are there bathrooms at the location where we jump?

There are bathrooms available in the parking lot where we meet. We encourage all our guests to use the bathrooms before we head out on the trail to the rope swing location. If you need to go again before you jump (we understand what happens when those nervous feelings hit), your guides can direct you to a private area.
