From Reich to Reunification: A Ride Through Berlin’s Twentieth Century

You’ve learnt about it in school, now explore where it really happened. On this guided bike tour through Berlin’s 20th century, we bring history to life by taking you to the places you’ve seen in pictures or read about in textbooks. We visit the site of the largest book burning in Nazi Germany, we see the site of the Reichstag Fire which led to the death of German democracy, we stand above the bunker where Hitler spent his last days, and we cycle across the space where Soviet and US tanks stood-off at Checkpoint Charlie. Along the way, our expert guides share with you the historical events as well as the personal stories that shaped Berlin into one of the most important cities of the 20th Century. If you want to delve into Germany’s fascinating and tumultuous history, at the same time as seeing some of Berlin’s main sights, this is the tour for you. 

This guided tour takes about 3.5 hours, including various stops at major historical sites. Our knowledgeable guides provide engaging and in-depth commentary, illustrated with carefully selected pictures to help history come alive.

What you’ll see:

• The balcony where the Kaiser declared Germany for WWI, and where the Spartacist Uprising declared Germany a Republic. 

• See the Reichstag and learn about the fire that allowed Hitler to seize power.

• Visit Goebel’s propaganda ministry where some of the most effective and destructive propaganda in history was created

• Visit the site of the book burning at Bebelplatz

• Stand where the Soviet and US tanks squared-off at Checkpoint Charlie

• Visit the iconic Brandenburg Gate, and see where protesters climbed over the Berlin Wall in 1989.

Guest Requirements:

• All guests must be able to ride a bicycle on their own (unless on children’s attachments)

• Double trailers for toddlers, tag-a-long attachments or kid’s seats for young children available at the children’s rate.

• No guest under 18 will be given a bike without an adult over 18 present.

• Please bring one government-issued photo ID to be retained as a deposit for all rentals and a credit card to be kept on file for the security of the bikes.
