4 Hour Bald Eagle Feeding Frenzy Tour from Campbell River

Witness the sky fill with hundreds of Bald Eagles as they dive for fish, and you’re right in the middle of the action. A rare tidal event, a feeding frenzy, and a wildlife experience you won’t forget.

During select spring and early summer days, the powerful tidal currents close to Campbell River create a rare natural phenomenon. As massive volumes of water surge through the channels, schools of Hake are forced to the surface - their swim bladders expand rapidly as they ascend, leaving them floating helplessly near the surface.

Eagles sense the feast. Perched high in shore trees and circling overhead, they await the moment when the tide hits its peak. Once the Hake appear on the surface of the ocean, hundreds of Bald Eagles dive from the sky, snatching the fish. Below them, seals and sea lions also take advantage, creating a 360‑degree feeding frenzy.

From the Zodiac, you’re right in the heart of the action. It’s an immersive wildlife experience that’s unique to the Discovery Islands of BC and Vancouver Island.

On 6‑hour tours, after the feeding frenzy, we may slow down in calm waters for lunch and additional wildlife viewing - keep your eyes open for Orca, Humpback Whales, Porpoises, Dolphins and other Seabirds on the journey back to Campbell River.

Please note: This is not a whale watching tour, and whale viewing is not the primary focus of this experience. The main objective of this tour is to observe eagles feeding. While we may pause briefly if we encounter whales along the way, especially on the shorter 4-hour tour there is limited time to view other wildlife.
